Tips and tricks about how to organise your transfer between the Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport and Budapest city centre

Your flight to Budapest Airport will arrive either to terminal 2A, or to 2B. The two buildings are connected by terminal 2C. Terminal 2A and 2B share the same curbside, hence we’ll refer to the 2A and 2B as terminal 2 from now on.

Budapest Liszt Ferenc Int. Airport – terminal 2 arrival and departure level

In 2025 there are number of different ways to reach the city centre from Budapest Airport, depending on your budget and desired level of comfort. The following list shows the available options from public transit to door-to-door private transfer.

Public transportation – the budget way

Take bus line nr. 200E from terminal 2 to Kőbánya-Kispest subway station. The bus ride takes about 25-30 minutes. At Kőbánya-Kispest, change to subway line M3 in the direction of Újpest. Another 20-25 minutes and you are in downtown Budapest.

The entire ride costs 2 single tickets: 900 HUF. You can also buy different passes (day,15 days, monthly) from the BKK vending machine at the airport.
The machine has multiple language options and accepts both credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) and cash in Hungarian Forints.

Front door boarding applies for the line 200E. Validate your printed single ticket on board by stamping it with the orange coloured machine and show it to the driver. If you purchased a single ticket, or a pass through the app, make sure to read the QR code which you can locate on the outside of the bus, to the left of the front door. Show the gif to the driver. Once presenting your valid ticket/pass to the driver, move towards the rear of the bus to let others board.

Your standard single ticket, day pass, or monthly pass is valid on both 200E and on M3 as well.

Please note that this is a normal public transit bus, there is limited space for your luggage.

Public transportation – the budget & convenient way

bus line 100E stop in front of Budapest Airport terminal 2

Bus line 100E operates 24/7 providing a direct link between Liszt Ferenc International Airport and Deák Ferenc tér. 100E runs in every 6-7 minutes during rush hour on weekdays and in every 10-15 minutes during the early and late evening. At night every 30-40 minutes. This is a direct line between the airport and downtown, which also stops at Kálvin tér, Astoria before terminating at Deák Ferenc tér. During the day from downtown towards the airport it only stops at Kálvin tér. Between 12.12am and 4.32am 100E also serves AstoriaM station, providing a convenient transfer from several night bus lines. The journey takes about 40 minutes.

The ticket costs 2200 HUF. You can buy the special ticket from the vending machines located at the public transit stop just outside the terminal building. Your standard single ticket, day pass, or monthly pass is not valid on the line 100E.

Front door boarding applies for 100E as well. Same procedure applies with the tickets here as well, as with 200E.
Download BudapestGo app for planning and purchasing tickets.

Note that the bus can get crowded during the day, thus you might not be able to board the first bus. Same applies on the way back to the airport.

Although this is a special shuttle between the city and the airport, not every bus is refitted to serve line 100E, thus they offer the same limited space for luggage as 200E. Refitted buses are of course a different case.

Please note that currently there are no train services between Budapest Airport and the city centre.

By airport shuttle

Follow the miniBUD floor stickers from the carousel to the miniBUD booth located to the right once you leave the arrival hall. Fixed priced door to door airport transfer service between Budapest city centre and Budapest Airport.

A miniBUD transfer starts at 6€/person. You can pay online, through miniBUD shuttle’s website with your credit card, or you can pay for the shuttle at the airport at the miniBUD desk with cash, or card.

By taxi

Currently, Fotaxi is the official taxi partner of BUD airport. Follow the “Fotaxi” floor stickers from the carousel to the Fotaxi booth located outside of arrival hall on the left hand side.

Fotaxi charges a flat rate of 1100HUF base fair and 440HUF/km. The same price applies for the other taxi companies as well in Budapest.

It costs around 11000 HUF from the Budapest airport by taxi to the city centre. Travel time is between 30 to 50 minutes depending on traffic.

Besides Fotaxi, we are happy to recommend UBER and Bolt. You can order Uber and Bolt using their apps. Pickup in front of the terminal by the second curb.

Note that there are still some shady drivers awaiting at the terminal door looking for first-time passengers. They are not licensed taxi drivers. Avoid them at all cost.

By private car

Your driver will wait for you with your name on the small sign outside the gates after you collect your luggage and cleared customs. When exiting the terminal be prepared for a moment of chaos, as dozens of drivers are trying to find their passengers. Good to have the cell number to call the driver in case you can’t find your ride. Pickup point is the second curb. If you’d like to treat yourself with a private airport shuttle, contact our team and we’ll arrange one for you.

A private shuttle costs between 52€ – 70€ /vehicle.
